A Pillowcase for Jack

So I took the sewing 101 class at JoAnn Fabric for the second time.  I didn't mess up so badly this time, however, I didn't have enough time to finish. I finished it up at home and this is the final product. I need to trim a few more strings off before I can say I'm totally finished.

Ooze

I have a Science Explorer book from when I was a teacher's aide back in 199something.  I found it the other day and the kids and I have been doing a few of the experiments. One of the activities is playing with cornstarch and water. I wasn't sure if it would be a hit, but they played with their ooze for over 30 minutes! I call that a success, especially for the toddler attention span.

I made the Ooze Lily's favorite color.

No Mother of the Year Award

Today wasn't the best of days as my role of Mommy. I lost my cool more than once. Cursed even more. It went downhill when Jack decided today he wasn't going to nap. I went upstairs a few times to calm him down. Nonetheless, he cried from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. I finally gave in and had him come downstairs. Normally during Jack's nap, I have Lily spend an hour in "quiet time" in her room. This gives me some quiet time of my own. Since I didn't get the beloved quiet time, I didn't get to recharge. Once both kids were both downstairs, I just had little to no patience with them. I'm not proud of this. I wish this didn't happen, but it does, more than I care to admit. I think it somehow is linked to certain times of the month if you know what I mean. (sorry men).
Perhaps some meditation is in order. To those Mommies out there who feel at their wits end - I'm right there with you today!

Bean and Cheese Burritos

Tonight David has a haircut around the dinner hour. Earlier this week, I attempted to make a nice dinner: Asian glazed porkchops with carrots and potatoes. I overcooked the pork chops, the potatoes stuck to the pan and I accidentally melted David's instant read thermometer. I ended the cooking experience with many tears - not my finest hour. Therefore, tonight, I decided it would be La Casita. The kids love their bean and cheese burritos and I like the chicken fajita burrito on a corn tortilla - tasty tasty! The kids had fruit for a snack after nap, so I'm counting that as their fruit/veggie for the meal. They are fed and appear happy! I'll try cooking again soon, just not this soon.

The front side of knitted shirt

A few weeks ago, I finished Lily's knitted summer top. After finishing, I got sick and haven't spent a lot of time working on the back. I have started the back, but only about 1/4 of the way completed. I promised Lily I would have this done before summer, so I have a bit more time.
