Thursday afternoon

It's Thursday afternoon. Lily is supposed to be napping, but is not. She fell asleep in the car and that is the kiss of nap death. I will give her a few more minutes, then get her up and attempt a nap later on. Come on Lily, sleep for Mama!!

This week has been about the same. Lily and I went to a playgroup on Tuesday and that was a lot of fun. Today we are going to see Mama LaRain and Zach for another playgroup. Tonight is one of my bookclubs. We are discussing Jodi Picolt's The Tenth Circle. That was not my favorite book of hers, but I did enjoy it.

Here's some funny pictures from this week...

While getting a diaper changed, Lily enjoys the fine reading of "Baby Colors"

There's more than corn in Indiana! (Okay, only you Hoosiers will get that)...this was Lily's first ear of corn, she loved it!

This is Lily's bedroom. She was putting all her stuffed animals on my lap.

Two things: Lily likes to play dress up now. This dress is what she wore to Ryan and Danielle's wedding and she wanted to wear it over her normal clothes. Also, her newest thing is to climb up on things!

Say Cheese!

Friday Night In

It's Mom's Night in again. David and a couple of his friends went to see the new Indiana Jones movie. We have a new theatre in town and supposedly all their theatres are digital, so David about wet his pants when he realized this. I hope he is having a nice time :)
Next week I will be busy at night, so I really don't mind staying in tonight. Tuesday night I'll be stamping with my friend, Betsy. Wednesday night I'm having dessert with my friend Joy. Thursday night is one of my bookclub meetings.

Soapbox Time:

Today Oprah re-aired a show about children and cars. So emotional for me to watch. The show featured a woman who lost her 7 year old daughter to a drunk driver. That just reinforces my belief to never drink and drive. Now that I'm a mother, I'm even more of a stickler. If I'm driving, I'm way happy to enjoy a non alcoholic beverage. I'm even a stickler about not driving while on a cell phone. I'm reading more and more studies that show driving while distracted can be even worse than drunk driving. The show also touched on not driving while tired, as a woman lost 3 of her children to falling asleep at the wheel. Finally the show spoke of the many incidents of backing out and running over a child. David and I discuss this often. I drive a Subaru Outback and you simply cannot see as well out of the back as perhaps a small compact car. There is a spot online where you can purchase items to help see out the back of your car. I believe I will be buying one. As Oprah said, when backing up, get out of your car to make sure no small children are there and always account for the children that are around you. I plan to teach Lily the power of a car and how dangerous they really are. I call myself a Granny driver. I am very cautious and don't speed more than 5 miles over the limit. People just do not realize how dangerous their car is should something go wrong. I don't care how good of a driver you may be, you just don't know who is driving in the car next to you. I want to give myself a chance by not driving impaired, distracted or too fast. I've been known to honk at people driving erratically. I love my horn!
Speaking of, today David and I saw a truck blow his tire. That was a bit scary. David got over in time as we saw the tire extremely flat and we knew it was going to blow. We got hit by some tire bits, but was able to get out of the way.

Hanging Out

At the zoo last weekend. Lily got to feed a giraffe!

Lily likes to sit in the "big girl" chair! I told her to smile and this is what we did.

Anniversary

Today, David and I celebrate our 3rd anniversary. Happy Anniversary David!!
Tonight we are going to attempt to go on a date! Woohoo! Not sure what we are going to do yet, but I'm sure we'll find a nice place to sit by ourselves and talk without interruption of a little person.
I must say we have made quite a life for ourselves in the past 3 years. We bought a home together, had a baby and have been on several trips. It's been quite a full life in just a few short years. Love you husband!!

Today is also my good friend, Christine's birthday. She is celebrating in Vegas!! Have fun Christine! Win big! Get lots of sun by the pool for me!!

Mom Night In

Tonight I am home alone with the Lily Pad. David is at his buddy, Ryan's bachelor party/bbq. Ryan is holding his party at his coffeehouse. Ryan will be getting married next Saturday. I'll make sure to post some pics of the event.

Anywho - Lily is in bed and I'm hanging out. I found a showing of Bridget Jones on tv and watched the end of the movie. Love that movie! I am currently reading "The Time Traveler's Wife" and I plan to dig into that soon. I'm also making my favorite cupcakes. White cake with dark chocolate icing. In the end there will be 24 cupcakes. Some of these will have to go to work with David so I don't eat them all. I probably should have waited to make this for my birthday in June, but alas, I did not.

Lily's been very cuddly lately - love it!

Hodge Podge

It's almost noon. Lily is napping. We just got back from Toddler Time at the Rockrimmon library. I have been missing out! I knew about this program, but just spaced it out. Lily really enjoyed herself. The librarian read books and sang songs. Lily was a bit quiet, but seemed happy. Once we got in the car, Lily requested me to sing "Wheels on the Bus" by stating "again" over and over until we got home. The library closest to my house has their Toddler Time tomorrow, I may just take her again!

I'm on work hiatus. I finished up my main project there. yippee! So, I'll be calling in on Friday to see if there are any more projects they need help with. Until then, back to being a full time stay at home Mom.

I've been feeling like Lily may need more than just Mommy time. I'm hoping to get her involved in more playgroups and perhaps swimming lessons this summer. I also may look into Kindermusik. I think having something simple to do a few times a week would be good for her and me!

This was technically my 3rd Mother's day last Sunday. Unfortunately David (husband) was sick and we ended up staying inside. He said he'd make it up to me. So, looking forward to that! Hrmm, day at the spa? Time to sit and read a book at a coffee house? Caribbean Cruise? hee hee

I've been making more cards lately. My good friend Betsy is now a Stamping Up consultant, so we have been making it a point to try to stamp at least once a month. It's a lot of fun to get together with her and make fun cards (she is one of my liberal friends and we can talk liberal politics! Thanks Betsy for being an outlet to me in the conservative town!)
I would show you what we've made, but I gave them all away before taking a picture of them. oops! Oh well.

Lily just looks like a little girl to me in this picture. Where's my baby??

Below the crab apple tree

Grandma let us borrow her kid rocking chair and Lily loves it!

Indiana and Obama

Today my home state of Indiana is in the news for their primaries. My sisters, Christie and Bonnie, got to see Barack Obama speak last night in Indianapolis. They were quite excited after the event and called me. Apparently, they were in line for a long time before the speech. Here is a bit of their email to me.

Christie and I got to see Barack Obama tonight. We went downtown around 3:45 this afternoon, and waited in line for about 3 hours. We finally got into the park, got rained on, saw Stevie Wonder play 3 songs, and got rained on some more. Finally Barack came out, and we saw him speak. His message was both hopeful and inspiring.

Christie, Bonnie and I are Obama supporters. I don't mind Hillary so much, but I'm nervous about some choices she is making of late. I don't support the gas tax relief and I don't enjoy hearing the words "obliterate" when speaking of Iran. But, since this post isn't a "political" blog in nature, I'll keep the rest of my opinions to the ears of my husband, family and my other liberal friends :)

Stevie Wonder! (now that is cool no matter who you support!)

Playtime, Babysitting and Politically Incorrect

On Thursday Lily's friend Zach came over. Zach was shaking the baby gate and Lily thought it hilarious.

Mama LaRain read to the kiddos.

Friday night I got to babysit for my friend, Melanie's 4 month old little boy, Ian. I realized just how big Lily is now compared to little Ian. Lily did okay with me holding Ian. She only got upset when Ian cried. That made Lily cry too. It was a bit hectic as David was working and I had to wrangle the both of them. However, Hero Husband came to the rescue and gave Lily a bath and put her to bed for me. Thanks David!!!

Now this is wrong, very wrong. But with my husband and my twisted humor, I found it hysterical. These were the pajamas Lily had on this morning. They are not quite a style I would have chosen for pajamas, yet, they were hand-me-downs and they were free! I was in the other room when my dear husband said "Hey Lily, go show Mommy your polygamist ranch pajamas." I know, wrong!! I'm so sorry! But I must say I laughed my butt off.
