PHR

Last weekend I took and passed my Professional in Human Resources certification!! I started studying for this exam at the beginning of September. A few weeks into my studying, I was asking myself, "What was I thinking taking this exam? I have small children, a part time job and it's the holiday season!" I'm glad I kept with it!!

People have asked me what a PHR will do for me. Taking the test really was for me. I wanted to prove to myself that I understood my field. Having a PHR does make an HR Professional more marketable. I would say having a PHR for an HR person would be like having a PMP for a Project Manager.

Sure glad this is all behind me!

I'm working on an HR blog. It's still under construction, but if you'd like to check it out:

www.hradvicebyjen.blogspot.com

Feel free to ask any HR questions on the new site! This is an experiment. I'll see if I can keep this little HR blog going. If nothing else, it will keep me on top of my HR knowledge.

Four!

Happy Birthday to my little girl! Lily is 4 today!
Lily is my sweet, smart, sassy little girl. It's been so fun getting to know her these last 4 years. I couldn't ask for a better daughter.

Some things about Lily these days:
  • If she is at home, she is wearing pajamas (not sure where she gets that from) ha!
  • She loves school
  • She's a great big sister
  • She loves all things princess and pink
  • She loves to sing
  • She is so smart
  • Very observant
  • She is a great sleeper. She goes to bed at 7:30 and sometimes sleeps as late as 8:30
  • She wants to be a big girl and a still a baby - She is so very independent and yet, she'll fall to the floor and tell us she has to be carried upstairs because she can't walk
  • She's a cuddler
  • She is great with puzzles
  • She loves to read her own books at night
  • Her favorite story is my made up "butterfly story" - Mariposa
  • She likes to have her back rubbed before going to sleep
  • She knows all her colors, numbers and letters
  • She can write her name
Lily - Love you forever sweetie! Thank you for being my daughter!

1-1-11

My plan was to write this post on the 1st of January, not the 3rd, but as January 1st progressed, I was taken down by what I believe was a bout of food poisoning. Horrible! It's absolutely horrible to have food poisoning! Not the best way to start off the year, but today I'm feeling better. My appetite is not back to normal, but I think tomorrow will be much better.

I don't have any big reflections on 2010, nor predictions of 2011. My 1st goal in 2011 is to pass my PHR exam. I have been studying since the first part of October. This test is known to be hard - only about 60% of people pass the first time. Hopefully all my studies will pay off.

2010 was a good year for me. It was a bit boring to be honest. I'm good with boring! Some highlights of 2010 for me are:

  • Went to Kansas City in May to see my parents and my friend, Amy and her family
  • My sister, Christie came out for a visit in July and helped me with the kids while David was out on a business trip
  • Lily and I took our first Mother/Daughter trip to Indiana in September for my sister, Bonnie's baby shower
  • I went on my solo trip to N.C. in November for my nephew's birth
  • My nephew, Grant was born (missed his birth by 20 minutes - still makes me sad to think about it)
  • Got to my goal weight
  • Saw several concerts: Jewel, Lilith Fair, Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds
