About once a month

Before our colds...

Today I'm dealing with a cold. I believe it's coming to an end, but still a cold nonetheless. I was able to muddle through my days with it however. I think Moms are required to do so. I'm living on generic acetaminophen cold tablets. They rock! Since Lily has gone back to Mom's Morning Out, I think someone in our family has gotten a cold about once a month; mostly the kids and many times me and sometimes David. Now that Jack is sleeping through the night, I hope my body will be better equipped to fight off these germs.

This week I'm working on my socks. I've come to a part where I have no idea what to do. Mind you, I have made two sets of socks in the past, but it's been so long that I don't remember. I will have to research online or go into my favorite yarn shop and ask for help. I'm already thinking of my next project. I have some fun fall colored yarn that I want to play with - scarf? hat? gloves? I continue to work on my forever long multi-blue colored afghan. It will get done one day. It's best to crochet when it's very cold outside as that blanket is toasty warm.

Inspiration

I like to read the blog "A Friend to Knit With". She is a spectacular knitter! She gives me inspiration on each post. Her last post spoke of a shop that donates it's funds to Doctors without Borders in Haiti. Just an idea for anyone in need of purchasing a gift. I want to make those toasties she has on her website, but I have too many projects on the needle right now. I must complete those first! I'm still working on my pink socks. I need to make a copy of my pattern before continuing. Have I gone to Kinko's to do so? Of course not. I'm also working on a very large blanket. I started this blanket while preggers with Lily. It has sat in my closet for quite some time now. I pulled it out recently and am getting oh-so-close to being done. I'd like this to be the ultimate sharing blanket. Anyone on the couch should be able to use this blanket whether one or three people.

THREE!

Happy Birthday to my Three Year Old!

What Lily is about these days:
  • She is a puzzle wizard
  • She enjoys reading
  • She loves her little brother, and at times can be quite jealous of him
  • She enjoys painting
  • She loves to sing (she knows many songs)
  • She gave up her chupie (pacifier - finally!)
  • She loves hide-and-seek: although we are still working on her not telling us where she is hiding
  • She'll tell me "Mama, I haven't given you a hug today" and then she'll run over and give me the best Lily hug ever!
  • Her mermaid doll is her "merminade"
  • She is fascinated by wedding dresses, or as she calls them "swedding dresses"
  • Her pajamas are called "jamamas"
  • She enjoys "flossing" her teeth
  • She's a bit stubborn with potty training. She is getting better though.
  • She has a bit of my Type A-ness
  • She loves to pretend she is a princess
  • She often hangs around the house in only a diaper or undies - yes, even in the winter
  • She won't let me put anything in her hair - ho hum
  • She likes to chase us around the house
  • She is very helpful
  • She is a sweet sweet girl and I feel so very lucky to be her Mommy
LOVE YOU LILY!!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to my family and friends! May 2010 be your best year yet!

A new year and a new decade. I love New Years. I always feel refreshed and recharged. It's a great time to make some healthy, better changes. I made a few better changing towards the end of 2009. I hope to keep up with these changes for 2010. I've been thinking a lot of about the 2000's. How will they be remembered in history? We had many life changing events such as the Dot.com bust, 9/11, the Iraq war, the Bush era (an era I am not proud of), Hurricane Katrina, and the economic crisis. On the brighter side, we also saw the first African American to become President (a very happy day in my life). Technology seemed to explode in the 2000s. Cell phones, email, the internet and social networking has certainly changed my life. I can't imagine not being able to look up a piece of information in minutes on my computer. Without the internet, I wouldn't have found my last two jobs. My long distance phone bill to Indiana would be outrageous. I wouldn't know half of my Mommy's friends either.

I tend to think about the clothing styles of each decade when looking back to the past. I was born in the 70s - bell bottoms, butterfly collars, lots of browns and oranges. I was a child of the 80s - a clothing decade I do not ever want to replay, especially the hairstyles. I was in college and a young woman in the 90s - I still love the grungy music and grungy clothes - perhaps a part of me will always be fond of the 90s - I love you Eddie Vedder! I started a career, got married and started my family in the 2000's. Let's see what the 10's will bring!

Peace and Love in your New Year!
